DNs / WINS is not really essential, but the connectivity of PING is :-)
Have many clients in different domains and even workgroups  - as long as
client can see the master via IP and no ports are locked via a firewall then
yes no problems :-)

It should work as long as they are on the same internal network and DNS is
configured for forward and reverse lookups 
And,  you can ping the client from the master and media servers, and client
to master and media and there are no 
firewalls between them
