Just putting the drives in wouldn't make them available to the OS
(HP-UX). You can cheat and simply reboot the HP-UX host or you can do
insf -e to make it install the devices.

"ioscan -fn" will show you the hardware your HP-UX sees. Make sure the
drives don't show as "UNCLAIMED"

Also make sure you're using the "no rewind" devices. When HP-UX adds
tape drives it created device files for each of the characteristics of
the drive. The one linked to BEST is the best density and the "n" at
the end of name signifies no rewind.

Hi

Not familiar with Unix, but got a Robotic Library that recently had 2
new tape drives installed and I configured using the NBU Device Wizard.

NBU sees the devices all ok - set the storage unit for 2 drives and
kicked off a full backup.

Enabled BPTM Logging. I keep getting status 84 and the output of the log
shows.....

I have the PDF for Status 84 errors, and tried these steps, but still
fail. As these drives are replacements, I am wondering if the errors
seen above have any reflection on this. Importantly, I am unsure why it
keeps downing the drives and what MTWEOF is - something to do with end
of file!

Any advice is really appreciated or pointers is appreciated. Also, does
Unix HPUX need drivers just like Windows??

Thank you
