Yes, vmquery -deassignempty ...  I just did this for several tapes.
However ...

 

The bpexpdate command which NetBackup runs to cleanup will not work if
the tape is not in both the volDB and mediaDB.  Your problem will be
that any other tape that should expire in the future will not be removed
from the volDB because there is no associated mediaDB entry.  If you
backed up the mediaDBs you could restore them back to your new media
servers that you configured and you should be set.  If you do not have
the mediaDB entries you could have VERITAS support run the NBCC facility
and they can rebuild your mediaDB entries.

Guys

some of you may be aware, our 2 media servers were destroyed and there
is no going back to them other than introducing 2 NEW Media Servers.

 

Problem I now see is a shedload of tapes that should have expired at the
Beginning of june that are stuck.

 

trying to bpexpdate them with the -host command returns error "cannot
connect to client".

I cannot move them as they are assigned. As i know these tapes are no
good, I need to remove them in preperation for new backups.

 

could I use the -deassign command or vmquery to do this? any help warmly
welcome!!

 

It goes to show... should not go on Holiday... mind you.... maybe it
shows just how little apprecaite how technical NetBackup is !!
