Hi Eric
not sure if this will help, but what about if you Create a file called
bpstart_notify.bat, and bpend_notify.bat in C:\program
files\veritas\netbackup\bin (or the path to your netbackup client software).

 
The "start" batch file will be run before a backup starts, and the end batch
file will run after the backup completes
 
In here, you could input the commands required.
 
Not sure if this is of some help or not!
