It means that you would have to recover from whichever tape was last
used.

=20

The first backup uses the first tape. The second backup uses the
second tape. The third backup uses the first tape again. And so on...

=20

If you had a failure after the fourth time you did the backup you'd use
the second tape to restore as it would have later data the first tape.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Catalog question

=20

Hello,

Our environment consists of HP-UX netbackup server running on NB 5.1 MP
3 - Acts both as master and media server.

Catalog backups are configured to backup on 2 removable media -i.e
media1 and media2:

Found the following in the NBU manual :

The Media 1 and Media 2 Areas setting specifies the media to use for the
catalog backups.

You do not have to assign both Media 1 and Media 2. If you do assign
both, NetBackup

alternates between the media.

Does it mean that if I had to recover my catalog for DR, Can I use any
one of the 2 tapes OR Do I need to recover the catalog from both the
tapes?

I am confused. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Smitha
