Thanks shekhar.. I really appreciate ur help. Our DR test site is =
Sungard.
One more question: According to ur steps:
=20
1. Install Netbackup and patches
2. Configuring the storage devices at sungard
3. Restore catalog /database - bprecover command , But was wondering if =
this would restore all stored robot configurations used in our current =
environment which would replace all the previous configurations done in =
step 2 ???
4. reboot the server , and start the netbackup .
5.install client software on servers . configure there bp.conf=20
=20
Thanks in advance,
Smitha

Smitha ,=20

The Ignite-UX server's make_tape_recovery command creates a bootable =
operating system recovery tape for a system while it is up and running. =
When a system has a logical volume layout, the recovery tape only =
includes data from the root volume group, plus data from any non-root =
volume group containing the /usr directory.

I am not sure if you can restore one HP-UX servers backup to different =
architecture , but in IBM I can restore mksysb =
http://www.unet.univie.ac.at/aix/cmds/aixcmds3/mksysb.htm image of =
server to entirely new architecture. for example I can restore mksysb =
image from P550 system to P690 or S-80 etc.. because DR vendor might not =
have exact same hardware as your prod site ,so it is very useful feature =
to have. that is one of the reason we have Netbackup running on AIX. .=20

mksysb also restores NetBackup code (bp.conf ,vm.conf ) etc.. as it is =
installed in rootvg ,so no need to reinstall Netbackup and apply all the =
patches all over again ..

If you have hardcode IP address in hosts files ,then you will need same =
Ip as prod site . I think NetBackup also records IP during the =
installation ..or you will have to edit bp.conf everywhere if you decide =
to change IP ..but I don`t think there is any reason to change IPs at DR =
site ,because you want to restore exact same setup as your prod site. =
that is why it is called DR test :-) ..

On the library : yes you can configure two libraries .only one can be =
used at a time .. I would ask DR vendor to give one Library with mixed =
drives (LTo1 ,LTO2 ) that would be easier to configure ,have configured =
it before .=20

Once you restore Hp-Ux OS , below are the next steps :

=20

create volume groups , logical volumes ,file systems for - NetBackup =
installation /catalog recovery.=20

install NetBackup software and apply all other patches that you applied =
over the years (goodluck ) - like I said mksysb in AIX does it for us .=20

Configure robot -drive density etc. -test with robtest -tape mount =
/unmount=20

load all the tapes -created by vault .

scan the robot /inventory ..

-restore catalog /database - bprecover command .=20

once restored - edit vm.conf bp.conf to fix any issues .( I had to =
replace vm.conf ).

reboot the server , and start the netbackup .

install client software on servers . configure there bp.conf=20

start the restore ....=20

there are so many other steps that you will have to perform during the =
recovery .. I was up all night at Sungard configuring robot - got it =
working in the morning - it was cable issue ,so first check all the =
cables ,tape drives ,etc..at OS level - perform tar backups to the tape =
drives from HP-UX and make sure everything works before jumping to the =
NetBackup part .=20

Goodluck !!!=20

Shekhar DhotreICT .

Hi all,
We are planning to do DR test for our environment which consists of =
Netbackup 5.1 MP 3 running on HP -UX . We have to do the following :

* Go to a different location called DR site.=20

* Rebuild the backup server right from scratch with the same hostname =
but possibly with a different IP address - Does new IP address cause any =
issues ? and also can anyone help me with any kind of steps to rebuild =
the whole server exactly as a replica of the present server but with =
different storage units.=20

* Configure new libraries - Right now we have only one L180 Tape library =
consists of both LTO1 and LTO 2 tape drives - Since we will be given 2 =
different libraries at our DR site, one for LTO2 and the other for LTO1 =
drives , Is it possible to configure two different libraries on the same =
server ,If so any issues I have to be aware of?=20

* Restore the data back to all the servers/clients added to the backup =
server.=20

Thanks in advance,
Smitha
