Hello Greg=20
=20
I can not answer your first question on storing ndmp and non ndmp data =
on the same tape.=20
=20
But for the question of sharing tape drives between netapp filers, this =
requires a future release of ontap for this feature.=20
=20
And to the third. We have been having talks with several netapp folks on =
tape backup performance. The newer lto-2 and lto-3 and other drives of =
this vinage are quite a bit faster then the old dlt 7000 tape drives =
that we used for many years. For lto-2 it is on the order of 1 to 6 and =
with lto-3 you are looking at 1 to ~15. That is if you can get the =
backup stream up to that speed. With lto-2's we have on several of the =
jobs, but not all. we note that there are many factors that effect job =
speed leading to total thruput. There is a limit on the thru put that =
each filer can do and once you reach that value, adding tape drives =
does not improve things.=20

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6.0 question

Is it true that in 6.0 ndmp data and regular data can be written to the =
same tape? Also I have heard that in 6.0 ndmp drives can be seen by all =
the filers instead of them being defined 1 or two at a time to a single =
filer. Almost like all the drives in the robot are virtually defined to =
the filer. Currently we have 2 tapes drives defined to each filer and =
our backups take forever because we only have 2 drives defined. Is there =
a way in 5.x to have all the drives in a robot being seen by a single =
filer to make the backups run faster?
