check out the bpclient command. this will allow you to use vnet without
boucing the masters netbackup processes. i run a solaris master so i
can't confirm if this works on windoz.
=20
this should do the job:
bpclient -client <client_name> -add -no_callback 1
=20
here is the command usage:
USAGE: bpclient -All [-M master_server] [-l|-L|-H|-FI]
       bpclient -client client_name [-M master_server]
           -l|-L|-H|-FI
       bpclient -client client_name [-M master_server]
           -add|-delete|-update
=20
For -add and -update the options are
            -connect_nr_port <0=3Dno, 1=3Dyes>
            -no_callback <0=3Dno, 1=3Dyes>
            -dynamic_address <0=3Dno, 1=3Dyes>
            -free_browse <0=3Dallow, 1=3Ddeny, 2=3Duse>
            -list_restore <0=3Dnot specified, 1=3Dallow both,
                           2=3Dallow list only, 3=3Ddeny both>
            -max_jobs <1-99>
            -current_hostname <host_name>
            -current_ip_addr <ip_address>
            -current_host host_name[:ip_address]|:ip_address
            -WOFB_enabled <0=3DWOFB disabled, 1=3DWOFB_enabled>

            -WOFB_usage <0=3DIndividual Drive Snapshot, 1=3DGlobal Drive

            -WOFB_error <0=3DAbort Backup on Error, 1=3DDisable & =

Interestingly I've had the same issue. You need to look at the
admin guide discussion on firewalls. =20

        =20

Although bpcd does the original connection there is a call back
port opened that is likely blocked by your internal firewall. (I'm
assuming you have one since you call this a DMZ host.) On looking at
logs on my attempts I saw it try various random ports for this.

        =20

The admin guide indicates you can tell it to use vnetd (13724
usually) for the call back instead of random ports but this requires
making changes to your config on the master via the GUI (may be also a
non-gui way but I'm not sure). This seems straight forward as
discussed in the guide but it requires bouncing Netbackup on the master
afterwards. I'll be doing that on Friday. Until then I've had to have
the security person open all ports between my DMZ server and my master
to get backups going. On Friday I'll restrict it to the vnetd, bpcd
and one other port. Let me know if you get it working before then.

        =20

Ok I have a windows server sitting in the DMZ that keeps failing
with an error 58, cannot connect to server name, invalid argument (22).
I am puzzled by this error cant figure out why. I have verified all
settings are correct. I can ping the master to client, client to master,
nslookup works, I can telnet to the bpcd port. I just cant seem to
pinpoint why I cant run this backup. Any ideas?
