Hi Daryl
The biggest gains you may / will see are by changing the NET_BUFFER_SZ,
NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS and SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS. Make sure that the
SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS are appropriate for your tape drives.

You can also translate some of the kernel tuning for NT/2000/2003 and/or
HP/UX. Most of the Solaris kernel parameters have their counterparts on
HP/UX, and the support web site has the Solaris kernel information.

However, it is possible that your gains will come from the Veritas NBU
buffer settings. And NET_BUFFER_SZ will also help local backups since the
system uses loopback for local backups.

This link <http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262724.htm>
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/262724.htm may also be of some help!

I implemented 2 SAN Media Servers with LTO3 HP Robot Library and we got out
backups down from 43 hours on LTO2 to approx 14 Hours for every single
stream finish (most complete in 10 hours with just 2 left running).

If I recall, I think with the streaming of a certain backup policy I was
getting something like 80GB an hour. Although have not checked this lately,
but the backups are much improved.

Also, ensure your Server has plenty of RAM and disk space - there was not
much for me to go on in your original post, but I hop this is of some help.
There is also a VERY good tuning Netbackup 4.5 document on the web - I may
be able to find this and forward it on but cannot post on the list as it
will be too large

Good Luck !

Subject: [Veritas-bu] WIN2K03/NBU LTO3 Performance Tuning?

Hello all:

Was wondering if anyone out there has any documentation on tuning NBU
performance for obtaining maximum throughput of LTO2/LTO3 tape devices under
Windows 2003?

Any info would be greatly appreciated; there doesn't seem to be a lot of
info available on the Veritas support site.

Thanks in advance,

Daryl Katauskas
