I can't speak for 5.1, but on 5.0 you can use the bpclient command to
specify what snapshot method is used by the netbackup client:
=20
USAGE: bpclient -All [-M master_server] [-l|-L|-H|-FI]
       bpclient -client client_name [-M master_server]
           -l|-L|-H|-FI
       bpclient -client client_name [-M master_server]
           -add|-delete|-update
=20
For -add and -update the options are
            -connect_nr_port <0=3Dno, 1=3Dyes>
            -no_callback <0=3Dno, 1=3Dyes>
            -dynamic_address <0=3Dno, 1=3Dyes>
            -free_browse <0=3Dallow, 1=3Ddeny, 2=3Duse>
            -list_restore <0=3Dnot specified, 1=3Dallow both,
                           2=3Dallow list only, 3=3Ddeny both>
            -max_jobs <1-99>
            -current_hostname <host_name>
            -current_ip_addr <ip_address>
            -current_host host_name[:ip_address]|:ip_address
            -WOFB_enabled <0=3DWOFB disabled, 1=3DWOFB_enabled>
            -WOFB_FIM <0=3DVSP, 1=3DVSS>
            -WOFB_usage <0=3DIndividual Drive Snapshot, 1=3DGlobal Drive
Snapshot>
            -WOFB_error <0=3DAbort Backup on Error, 1=3DDisable & =
Continue>

To set it use something like:
    bpclient -client <client_name> -add -WOFB_FIM 0
=20
after that, make sure that -WOFB_enabled is indeed enabled . . . HTH

restores do not work right?
=09
=09
We just upgraded from 4.5 to 5.1 and we tried to do some
restores of 2003 servers like we did with 4.5 and are not having any
luck. The current 5.1 client uses the volume shadow copy services (VSS)
to do backups on Windows 2003 machines. We found that this makes things
difficult when restoring a server - especially when restoring to
different hardware because certain protected files can no longer be
selected/deselected as needed.
        =20
We just tested a restore of an entire system to the same
hardware (we backed the fully loaded system up, we wiped the system
clean, we then installed the base OS along with the backup client, and
we finally ran the restore). The result was a system that will not even
get to the windows GINA before bluescreening/rebooting continually.
        =20
Is there any documentation on best practices for restoring an
entire windows OS from scratch using NetBackup (as in a disaster
recovery situation)? Likewise, is there any documentation and/or
recommendation on restoring an entire system to different hardware? We
have successfully done restores of full systems from backups that still
use the "System State" method of addressing protected files (instead of
VSS). With that in mind, we would prefer a solution using what we have
without having to investigate something new like bare metal restores.
Any direction you can offer would be most appreciated.
