Mark,

When you say that you have and HW encryption option available, do you mean that
you use one from a third party vendor, or that you company sells one as part of
the library?

Either way can you tell us more about the HW options.

We have been using the netbackup option on two masters and can confirm that it
does use a fair amount of cpu on the client. Which did not cause a problem on
the thurput on intel based boxes. But we did run into netbackup 5.1 timeout
problems with the option turned on. It is supposed to be fixed with the new
sched code in netbackup version 6.

Hi Justin,
I have no idea of the cost to turn this option on, but I do know that
it will require an enormous amount of processing power and that there is a good
chance you will see a performance/throughput hit that will be totally
unacceptable to your backup schedule.
I would suggest that you get a demo license to test with before
spending ANY money on it.
There are HW encryption options available (we have one) that probably
would be more cost effective if you include the added server load required to
encrypt your data.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Does anyone know what the cost is for this add-on product under 5.1?

It allows multiple levels of encryption, AES 128, 256, Triple DES(?) etc-not
just the legacy DES 56bit/etc encryption.

You have chosen to install these Add-On Products:
        NetBackup Encryption
Is this list correct? [y,n] (y)=20
