Of course. ;-)

You need to look at the individual tries and their start/elapsed/end
values. Basically, you are doing the same thing you thought to do, but
only on the actual write time.

This link has a good explanation for field values in the bpdbjobs
-all_columns output. It's a bit dated, but functionally still useful.
You can get more detailed information from the 5.1 documentation, too.
The newer versions (4.5, 5.x, etc) display a reasonably accurate kb/sec
while the job is running for a quick status.
