If you run:
=20
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpplclients -noheader > some.file
=20
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/update_clients -ClientList some.file
=20
Answer N to do you want to replace the bp.conf with the master server's
bp.conf, tell it how many clients you want to update at one time and
you're done.
=20
How is that hard?

i have seen that scripts, but haven't seen any flags to tell it to not
mess with the bp.conf. I have a lot of clients behind a firewall or have
secondary nics for the backend backup network, and those names are not
in dns, only local hosts files. Would the update_clients still work with
the NB client name list provided? All clients already have netbackup
installed but since the upgrade from 4.5FP3 to 5.1, I haven't had time
to upgrade every client. thanks for your help!

Why don't you use the update_clients command? It runs across netbackup
ports and doesn't require anything else to be open. Of course, you can't
do it unless the software has already been installed, but, for client
updates, it's a lot easier than what you're doing.

There is an easier way. I have had the same problems for years. Those
protocols are not allowed to be open/active where I work. Whenever I
have to update NB clients, I have one Solaris 8 and 9 box that I use to
command line push the update. The executable is in=20
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/install_client_files ftp client_name|
your_user_name. I know it's clear text, but ftp is only opened in a few
places. When the ftp push is complete, I log on to my 8 and 9 client and
tar/gz the /tmp/bp directory and scp it back to the master. From there,
you now have the latest client packaqe that can be scp'd, sftp'd to any
client you want. It's not perfect, but since using the gui is not an
option, this is the easiest for me.=20

        Hi Guys,

        =20

I am trying to push out the client software to one of my unix
boxes from the GUI but I get the following error message.

        Cheers,
