[Veritas-bu] Throughput test ?
2005-10-03 03:28:00
Hi eric!
you can try to backup to disk (/dev/null) without actually writing backup
to disk (Files will be 0 bytes large)
>From Server (unix) -- re-direct ALL disk based backup to /dev/null
1.touch /usr/openv/netbackup/bpdm_dev_null. This will re-direct ALL backup
to disk to /dev/null instead Remember to start/stop Netbackup when you
place or remove the bpdm_dev_null file.
2.Create a new disk storage unit (stu)
3.Re-direct/create classes and schedules to point to the new disk STU
4.Do test backup. Netbackup will create files in the directory you choose
in step 2 as if it was a real backup to disk. Files will be 0 bytes large.
5.To remove the 0 bytes files and clean up in the Netbackup database for
backups that can't be restored, use
/usr/openv//netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpexpdate -backupid
{hostname_epochtime} -d 0. Backupid is the file name residing in the
directory chosen in step 2
DONT FORGET TO REMOVE /usr/openv/netbackup/bpdm_dev_null AFTER TESTING
or you can try this:
FROM THE CLIENT
Windows
c:\Veritas\Netbackup\bin\bpbkar32 -nocont > NUL 2> (for Windows)
temp.f will contain all of the files that bpbkar has collected. This will
grow considerably if there is a large file
system or directory structure you are testing with. PLEASE BE WARNED
UNIX
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpbkar â??nocont / > /dev/null 2> /tmp/files.out

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Throughput test ?
Is there a method to test the maximum throughput for backups and restores
That can be obtained without actually running a backup?
4.5 FP6, 2003 Master/media server
Unix, 2003, 2000 and XP clients.
Thanks
Eric Ljungblad
