Did you add the clients name to the /etc/hosts of the master server in the
following fashion?

192.168.X.X blimpy.somedomainname.com blimpy

and then the following entry in bp.conf should exist

CONNECT_OPTIONS = blimpy 0 1 0

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Linux Client troubleshooting

Hi all, I have installed the NetBackup client to a Linux machine and I am
having trouble getting the backups to work.

I have installed on several other Linux machines at same OS levels/NB Client
versions with no problems.

Whenever I try a backup the status ends in 57, client connection refused.

I verified its not a firewall issue. I actually had the firewall guy show me
the ports he has granted access for on this server.

I did all the troubleshoointg, i.e. telnet hostname 13782, check inetd.d
directory, netstat -an |grep 1378 shows Listening on these ports, etc...

The only thing I can find, when I login to the Linux Server and do nslookups or
digs everything is find for name resolution.

But when I run bpclntcmd -server master-server I get the following...

./bpclntcmd -hn master

host master: master.domain at 1.1.1.1 (0x4f340a0a)

checkhname: aliases:

and instead of completing and giving me back my prompt, it hangs at the
checkhname: aliases.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I'm hoping someone here can shed
some light before I have to go to the hell that is opening a case with Veritas
Support...

Thanks,

Taylor
