I think that you can get what you want from running the check_coverage
script (-hardware if only looking for the version).
This is what I get from an Alpha system.
Try it on your openVMS.

Sorry, but I already tried that one. In the GUI it shows the VMS clients as
OpenVMS V7.3 whereas bpgetconfig shows nothing.
