The reason that you don't use the bpend_notify script to remove files that
were backed up is because you can't verify the files are actually backed up
until after the bpend_notify script is completed.

I spent several good hours trying to debug a script that would move files
after they were backed up. It would not work until I ran it the second time.
I was using bplist in the script to verify that the file was backed up and
then move it. When I ran the script the second time (I was on my test box),
the script ran just fine and moved the file. The thing that I didn't catch
on to is that the file had been backed up the first time I ran the script,
so the second time I ran it, bplist was showing me the file that was backed
up in the previous run (the -b switch on bplist helped me on this).

A backup job is never completed (no status what so ever) until after
bpend_notify is finished.

backed up?

I have a backup timing question. If files are written to disk while the
backup is in progress will they be backed up during that backup window? The
reason why I'm asking this is because I have a script that cleans up all the
files once the backup is completed.

This involves database dumps and transaction logs. I just ran into a case
where the DBA said his Oracle extract was still in progress when the backup
was working and the transaction log that was dumped to disk during the
backup may have been deleted by my bpend_notify script. We did not find the
transaction file in the backup nor on the disk so I can only assume that the
script deleted the file. If that's the case is there any easy way to have
my bpend_notify script only delete the files that were backed up?

Thanks in advance . Mike Day
