Hello!
=20
I found out the problem is not at all related to cluster volumes and =
strange ip addresses.
=20
=20
Instead this is a privileges problem. The service (agent) is running as =
user Local System (the default setup). For directory structures where =
"CREATOR OWNER" and "SYSTEM" had no explicit privileges defined or =
inherited, the differential backups behaved like full backups, causing =
all files to be copied each time.
=20
1. Can anyone explain this behavior? Is the agent not able to read the =
modification time, and as a result the file is copied "just to be sure"?
=20
2. Does anyone know exactly which privileges are needed for the NB agent =
to perform correctly (regarding file backups, not databases etc)?
=20
Regards

Subject: [Veritas-bu] backup of cluster volumes
=20
Hello!
=20
I am experiencing a problem when backing up cluster volumes. The backup =
clients are Windows machines called node1 and node2, and the cluster =
volumes are reached by virtual ip addresses called service1 and service2 =
in the backup server's hosts file (i.e the cluster services are using =
fail-over functionality).=20
=20
There is no problem taking backup of the hosts (node1 and node2) - both =
full and incremental backups are ok.
=20
However when taking backup of the cluster volumes (service1 and =
service2) the full backup is ok, but the incremental backup is the same =
size as a full backup, resulting in huge backup amounts being created. =
It seems it cannot find any full backup to use for reference when making =
incremental backup.
=20
=20
We have the same kind of setup using a Linux fail-over cluster which is =
working ok regarding the incremental backups.=20
=20
Is there any obscure difference in the way Linux and Windows NetBackup =
clients are handling the client hostname?
=20
=20
The server is using Sun Solaris 8 and NB 4.5 FP6. The clients are =
Windows 2003 and NB 4.5 FP6.
