Traditionally you would just list a pattern without an explicit
(absolute) directory and you would exclude any time NBU ran into a
directory or file that matched the pattern. If the pattern matched a
directory it excluded that directory and everything under it.

I seem to remember reading here that on a certain patch level of 5.0
and 5.1 that this quit working. Does it work on the latest patch
levels?

I'm looking to upgrade past 5.0 MP1 myself and would like to know if
I need to watch out.

Offhand, the exclude and include list functionality is a direct
extension of what GNU tar provides, which is the former in
functionality.
