It's absolutely possible, and potentially desirable in a lot of cases. You
can specify where you want the cache file to go and where you don't want it
to go. The way to do it is via the admin console; double click on the
client name. This will pop up a box with expandable features under Windows
Client. From here choose VSP and you'll be presented with the options Cache
file volume list and VSP volume exclude list. Put the C drive in the
exclude list and then specify the drive you want the cache file to go on in
the volume list.

Because VSP was designed to not remove the cache files if any other program
ever accessed them we experienced cache file build up over days until they
filled up the drive (no, we aren't running anti-virus software in these
cases). And you can't manually remove them without first rebooting (yes, I
know about that 3rd party tool that supposedly removes the file handle but
it may also crash your system). After much pain and heartache we had to
provide a dedicated volume for cache files, and used the above configuration
to direct the cache files there.

Yeah, this is a waste of disk space but it was the only solution because
Veritas said the VSP fixes that will enable cache file removal won't be
available until NBU v6.0.

Is it possible to generate the VSP Cache file on a different drive other
than C:\?

Host Properties -> Clients -> VSP -> VSP Snapshot Provider

Cache File Volume List: - Would this be the right option?

Or is this not possible?

Thanks,

Justin.
