Hi
=20
I'm surprised that your SE suggested SAN Media Servers - according to =
the compatibility matrix:=20

"VMware support is limited to supported NetBackup OS clients-only; =
NetBackup Servers are not supported."

Then they are fibbing to you. What you need is a client for each VMWare =
machine to back up the data. I worked with a Veritas SE to design our =
VMWare backups, and we are going with an agent for each machine, as well =
as a Win2k3 SAN Media Server (on an IBM HS40 Blade $$$) and 5 SSO =
licenses to suck down all of the VMWare dsk files from our EMC SAN =
straight to tape. But you still need the VMWare licenses to back up =
changes and perform incrementals. As far as we know, VMWare machines =
cannot be backed up live, and are designing some scripting possibilities =
to work with that. And then management said no way to the SAN backups, =
so we're doing it just with clients. We just did a full recovery of a =
VMWare system last night, and it worked quite well. :)

Just curious if anyone is backing up any instances of VMWare clients. =
We have been told by Veritas that we can purchase one agent to backup =
all instances. VMWare is saying that we will need a client for each =
virtual machine. Anyone with any experience here have any info?

Thanks

Mike
