They're both right.

You purchase one client license from Veritas per physical VMWare server,
and you then install the client on each individual VMWare instance
running on that physical server.

So, with respect to license, Veritas is correct...one license per
physical server.
With respect to actual backups, VMWare is correct, the client is
installed on each virtual machine.

        Just curious if anyone is backing up any instances of VMWare
clients.  We have been told by Veritas that we can purchase one agent to
backup all instances.  VMWare is saying that we will need a client for
each virtual machine.  Anyone with any experience here have any info?
