Assuming that you have your ports opened correctly on the firewall, I would
suggest that you add the master/media servers to the /etc/hosts file on the Sun
system.
Sounds like your Winders boxes could be doing WINS resolution to find the
master/media instead of DNS.

We have several boxes on the other side of firewalls. The windows boxes back
up fine, but the Solaris boxes can not complete a communication. What I mean
is: I can bpdir -M Solaris box, and the sniffers show traffic, but I get no
information back from the Solaris box. If I telnet to the bpcd port it connects
and sometimes will disconnect after a return or two (normal), but sometimes I
have to ctrl/C it. If I try to get the client information from the GUI, I get
a cannot connect on socket, error. The master server from which I am trying to
connect is a Windows 2000 server, the Solaris box is running Solaris 8 and both
are running NetBackup 5.1MP2. ANY suggestions, help, etc. will be greatly
appreciated.
