If you know your blocking factor, you can use tar tvfb
## /dev/rmt/whatever.

I believe you have to use mt to fsf past the first
file, as that is the Veritas label.  I've used this
before it definitely works. (at least in 4.5 it did).

If you see your netbackup db files you know it's a
catalog tape.
