In that case, do I need 5 application backup schedules for a policy?
If so, how can I determine which application backup is triggered by
which automatic?
=20
When I look at a status of backup report for one of these db machines I
see many lines with the same policy and schedule. In fact, if I do
bperror -backstat -hoursago 24 -client <some client>|wc I see 138 lines.
Is that to be expected?

        Keith,
There are several ways to generate the report for a client.
In the NetBackup Admin Console GUI, in the tree on the left, is a report
section in which there is a report "Status of Backups" which you can
select which client(s) to check. You can run this same report from the
command line using the bperror -U -backstat .... command. Run bperror
-help to get the usage.
        =20
The application backup schedule is controlled either by the
regular schedules defined for that policy OR by manually starting the
backup from the client using the bpbackup command. You do not start the
backups from these schedules, but they are required to run. When a
scheduled backup, or manually started using an automatic schedule (or
parent schedule), you will see the automatic schedule start, then once
Oracle starts you will see one application schedule/job per Oracle data
stream. In brief, the automatic schedules for this policy control when
the backups run.

I have just inherited a NetBackup Enterprise 5.1
environment. My previous backup experience is with Legato so I'm having
some difficulty grasping how NB works. My biggest problem is figuring
out from looking a policy's schedule just what will run and when it will
run.

                1) Can I create a report which shows which backups (both
successful and unsuccessful) have been run for a given client?=20

                2) Oracle backups are the biggest part of our backup.
In the policy for each of my database machines, in the schedules
section, I see several entries where the type is "Application Backup".
Each of these has a start window tab, but has no exclude dates tab nor
can the schedule type be changed. My question is, how do I control when
these application backup schedules run?
