I found the reason why I was unable to use the bpclient.exe command. I
thought I would share in case anyone else has problems.

Before I was able to use bpclient.exe to disable VSP, I first had to
"add" them to the client attributes tab. You can do this through the GUI
or by using the bpclient.exe command.

Since I wanted to add every client to this tab, I ran the following
command:

For /f "tokens=1,2,3* skip=2" %a in ('bpplclients.exe') do bpclient.exe
-add -client %c

Once this completed for all of my clients, I was able to run the
following command to disable VSP on all clients:

For /f "tokens=1,2,3* skip=2" %a in ('bpplclients.exe') do bpclient.exe
-update -client %c -WFOB_enabled 0

Editorial: You would think that Veritas would automatically add the
client to the client attributes tab when the client is added to a
policy, but they don't. Maybe a future FP release...

After running this, VSP is now disabled on all of my clients and backups
no longer hung or slowed down!

Thanks everyone for the help

Kris

backups stalling

I found two ways to disble VSP. The bpclient command may only work on
Windows master Server.
For some reason in 5.x the VSP on the client properties does not let you
enable/disable VSP.

To disable VSP there are 2 ways I found:

On the netbackup master/media server:

1. open a dos prompt and cd to the following location: <veritas
install
path>\netbackup\bin\admincmd

2. bpclient.exe -client <client_name> -update -WOFP_enabled 0
(0=disable 1=enable)

Second method i found out is to go and change the setting in the
following
location:

<veritas_install_path>:\netbackup\db\client\<client_name>\HOST_INFO

Hope that helps.

If you go into Host Properties -> Master Servers Then select your master
-> right click -> Properties Then Select "Client Attributes"

If you added a client name in there, you will get all the options...to
use VSP vs. VSS, to enable, disable, fail or continue on VSP failure,
etc, etc.

As an additional data point....seems mine always stall during the System
State backup...
