[Veritas-bu] netbackup 5.1 issue
2005-02-18 08:07:39
It appears that you have defined your tapes as HCART and your tape
drives as "hcart2".
Since you have no HCART media available (my assumption from you output
below), you have no media defined as HCART2 which is what your storage
unit is looking for.
You have to define your tapes as the same density as your tape drives.
(By the way, been there, done that. It took me 3 hours to determine how
I messed up the same thing.)

Subject: [Veritas-bu] netbackup 5.1 issue
Hi,
Looking for some idea's as to the cause of a very frustrating issue! :)
We recently built a new backup server consisting of as follows..
sun v440
l25 robot / 2 x lto2 drives
netbackup 5.1
qlogic hba
# sgscan
/dev/sg/c0t0l0: Changer: "M4 DATA MagFile"
/dev/sg/c0t1l0: Tape (/dev/rmt/0): "HP Ultrium 2-SCSI"
/dev/sg/c0t2l0: Tape (/dev/rmt/1): "HP Ultrium 2-SCSI"
vmoprcmd output..
Drv Type Control User Label RecMID ExtMID Ready Wr.Enbl.
ReqId
0 hcart2 TLD - No -
-
1 hcart2 TLD - No -
-
Following the install and configuration netbackup see's the robot and
the drives as I would expect no problems. The barcode rules work fine
and the tapes are moved to the correct volume pools.

UNXFS pool
A865L1 HCART TLD 0 1 - - -

The problem I'm having is although the tapes are clearly available I
continually get "status (96) - unable to allocate newmedia for backup,
storage unit has none available."
I've checked and rechecked the policies and everything *looks* fine!
I even setup a DSSU storage unit to test the policy and when using DSSU
the backups work perfectly but when switched back to the robot storage
unit I get status 96 again.
I've used robtest to mount/unmount and move tapes and all works fine
too.. I'm running out of ideas! I've like to think I'm fairly
experienced in netbackup (3 years a user) and I've overcome problems
before but this has me stumped.
If anyone has any idea's as to things it could be please let me know!
Thanks
Sam
