Personaly I would keep the L700 and just change the drives.
The only library I know of that is better then the L700 is a PowderHorn. It 
could be that the SL8500 will be as good as the Powderhorn but let us see 
that first.

We use STK9940B drives and they don't come better then that. (except for 
STK9840C if you need a fast mounting drive)

If STK9940B's isn't an option I would also go for the LTO2 drive like David 
says.
