A new license key is not required as it is a free upgrade. the keys for 4.5
work without a problem for version 5.1.

When upgrading to version 5.1 from 4.5 does one have to obtain a new

Hello Jason

I have not heard a fix date. But rumors had it would be the end of 1st
quarter of next year and given the software biz I would guess 2nd or 3rd,
depending on how many features and how much qa work they do.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Remote netbackup client install over ssh help

Has anyone here installed client software using ssh instead of rsh for
remote installs?

Im running Solaris 9 and using netbackup 5.

I have keys set up from root so no password auth is needed. This works fine

I first tried linking rsh and rcp to ssh but that didnt seem to work
ending with server/hostname not found. The same command with ssh worked
fine.

So i edited /usr/openv/netbackup/client/Solaris/Solaris9/install_client
and replaced the RSH and RCP sections with RSH=/usr/bin/ssh and
RCP=/usr/bin/scp

Something started happening as the directories were created on the
remote client, but things just hung and stuck there.

From this i decided to run the install_client_files script manually
from command line like this :-

cd /usr/openv/netbackup/bin
./install_client_files rsh <client name>

As id edited the install_client script to have a 'set -x' line at the
top i can see all the output scrolling and the scp calls working and
everything. Then things just stop...and wait.

Going on to the client i see loads and loads of ssh processes and when i
tried killing 1 off the job moved a step along. I tried killing another
ssh process on the client and then the server script had a connection
lost, and still hung. Obviously killing processes isnt the way forward.

Has anyone had this type of things before? Im assuming there are too
many ssh processes and so why are they not exiting when the scp or ssh
command from install_clients as finished?

Help please. I have lots of clients to install and rsh is not allowed
through the firewall correctly so, so i need to get this remote setup
working over ssh.

Thanks
Dave

I'm trying to find the equivalent sources for media manager messages as
syslog on Unix when
the daemons are run with the '-v' option. Doing this on Unix gives me
plenty of useful data logged
at the daemon.notice level. Where does this go on Windows? Does anyone
have any examples
from the Windows event log that are similar?

Kindest regards,

Hi Guys -

We're still running Netbackup 5.0, and we are having the dreaded
DOWN-TLD problem when a job runs and can't connect to a server or fails. We
have to live with it for just a little while longer, so I'm looking to write
a script that can check the status of the drive, and issue an UP Drive
command to bring them back up every 1/2 hour or so. Does anyone have any
idea where to start to look for info on how to do this?

Thanks,

I would think that most of the logging for windows is done within
Netbackup. Without tons of knowledge of using nb in a Windows, I would
say to bump up the VERBOSE option in bp.conf and vm.conf to 5, or 9 if
you want the most level of logging.
