Hi toni, did your solaris server happen to use links to the location of
the media database and/or the images database. I was told by Veritas
Support that they were aware of your situation occuring at some sites
during an upgrade on a server using links to the database.

I once upgraded a solaris netackup server from netbackup 3.4 to 4.5 and
suffered an identical problem. The customer had at an earlier stage
introduced a new external disk system to locate the netbackup databases
to. They used links to move the current /usr/openv/netbackup/db  and
/usr/openv/volmgr/db to the new disk system. But if I remember correctly
thay had links within links and that was the root cause of the problem.

During the upgrade pocedure Netbackup failed to follow the links. The
end result was that one of my two databases was blank. 

We resolved the problem by restoring the server to Netbackup 3.4 and
beginning the upgrade again. After the partial package remove we had to
make changes to the links and then continue with the upgrade.

Hello

I recently upgraded a NetBackup DataCenter 3.4 master server running 
Solaris to NBU 4.5 FP3. The upgrade went ok. However, all the old
configs 
appear to be preserved except for the contents of the images db. So now
I 
can't restore anything prior to the upgrade. When I browse media for
dates 
prior to the upgrade nothing is displayed.

I converted the catalog with the cat_convert command (cat_convert a2b 
\image_3.4 images). All the old image info is still held in the
images_3.4 
dir but it doesn't appear to have converted any of the old data.


All help greatly appreciated.
