This will sound bizarre in concept and approach but there may be those who =
have had a similar need. In short, here is what I'm attempting to do. Do a =
DR restore of two master servers from only one master server with a =
unique/separate catalog backup set, thus allowing one to chose the =
preferred system for recovery (one may be needed, the other may not). In =
the below scenario, it is the recovery of MS2 that is desired. Environment:=
A two master server environment, each unknown to one another, both have =
their own media type (one "MS1" LTO & one "MS2" DLT), policies and unique =
assigned clients. Proposed approach: MS1 backs up to a dedicated tape the =
catalog backup of MS2 which uses a local "disk" storage unit for it's =
catalog db backup. The tape of MS1 is then used by bprecover to restore =
the image set. Backup Stage Part 1. MS2 runs a catalog backup (bpbackupdb =
command line driven via AT or cron) to a locally defined "disk" storage =
unit. The catalog image files created are copied via "rsync" (or =
something like it) to a specific directory on MS1. Part 2. MS1 runs a =
unique catalog backup (bpbackupdb command line driven via AT or cron) =
policy backing up just the catalog image file directory location containing=
the files copied from MS2. DR Stage Part 3. Rebuild the your master =
server with the correct name, in this case MS1 Part 4. Using "bprecover" =
and the correct tape, recover you catalog image files. Concern/Question: =
(Assuming there are no show stoppers to here) 1. In the Backup Stage Part =
2, will using "bpbackupdb" backing up catalog files create a wired set of =
files that "bprecover" can't read. 2. In the "bprecover" command the =
"*dhost" command allows for another host to be specified. Would there be =
any possible conflict of the names of MS1 and MS2 that would prevent =
bprecover from working properly. Thank you to those who've read this and =
if there are suggestions or an alternate procedure accomplishing the same =
thing, I'd appreciate in knowing how it was done. Thanks!Scott
