what type of snapshot tech are you planning on using?
from the storage level (ex: emc snapshot) or volume/fs
level with veritas or something else?  snapshots can
offload the backup task to a non critcal machine where
you can conduct the oracle backup in offline or online
mode with rman.  you could also use hw or volume
replication in conjunction with rman to give you extra
levels of recovery (perhaps you already do this)
