Okay,
After a couple of years management finally succumbed to my silvery tongue
and bought me a license for vault! So now that I have it I have to figure
out how to put it to use (my tongue is not silvery enough to get some
consulting dollars thrown in)
Here is my current duplication/rotation:
7pm each night all Cumulative backups from the day (we run cumulative
backups on exchange every 2 hours during the day) are duplicated to an
Off-Site pool with a 28 day retention.
3am each morning the first of 3 duplication jobs kicks off. The first
duplicates all backups that have a schedule label of Daily_Arc from the
previous day to the Off-Site pool with a 28 day retention. The second jobs
runs once that is complete and duplicates all backups from the previous day
with the Schedule label of Daily to the same Off-Site pool with a 28 day
retention. At this point a catalog backup tries to run to tape. Once the
catalog is finished a notice is sent to the tape ladies telling them which
tapes to take off-site. Then part 3 runs. Part 3 duplicates all of the
Daily_Arc images to another tape with a retention level of 9 (on my system
this is set to Infinite)
I am trying to configure my Vault profiles like this:
I have 2 Vaults under this robot (the robot has 40 slots and 4 drives. 2
drives connected to the master and 2 to the media server)
Vault #1: Exchange_Archive
---One profile under this Vault: AC_Daily
---Profile settings: Backup started between 7 days 0 hours and 0 days 0
hours, Advanced Criteria is enabled, Type of Backups = Full, Source Volume
Group = All, Clients all, Media Servers (my two servers in Richmond are
selected), Backup Policies all, Schedules = Arc_Daily.
---Duplication Tab: Removable Media and/or disk is selected, number read
drives =1, Storage Unit=Master L40, Volume Pool= Exchange Archive Pool,
Retention Level = 9
Vault #2: Richmond (I am going with a site based Vaulting setup)
Currently there are 3 Profiles under this Vault.
---Profile #1=Nightly_Cummulatives (This one is to duplicate the cumulative
each evening)
---Profile #1 Settings: Backup started between 7 days 0 hours and 0 days 0
hours, Advanced Criteria is enabled, Type of Backups = Cummulative
Incremental, Source Volume Group = All, Clients all, Media Servers (my two
servers in Richmond are selected), Backup Policies= My 3 Exchange Database
policies, Schedules = all
