Hi, we have recently moved from an HP Sure store 4/40 tape library to a HP
MSL5060 60 tape library. On the 4/40 we were able to configure a 10 tape
mail slot to use to inject or eject the tapes. The new library we ended up
with only has the capacity for a 2 tape mail slot. The whole idea of the
mail slot is to stop people putting a new tape into a slot where a tape that
is currently in use needs to be returned too once the backup / restore has
finished. If this happens the drive goes down untill we come in the next
morning so we loose a quater of the capacity.
I am wondering how other people handle the situation. I can easily write a
script to notify me of what tapes were used the previous night and swap
those with scratch tapes but since we send the tapes off site in the morning
and then inject the scratch tapes into the library in the evening people are
bound to make mistakes. The other thought we had was to write a script to
move the used tapes to one of the draws once they had finished but that gets
messy as well.
This must be a common problem that others have come up with ways to get
arround, let me know what you think.
