Actually NDMP backups are nothing more than dumps, albeit BSD style
dumps, so you can definitely restore to a Unix box; no NDMP required.
To do this requires some manual processes but it can be done.

I have done it many times myself on Solaris, both from NBU backups as
well as BudTool.  Having said that, I've never tried restoring NTFS
security style qtrees to Solaris, just Unix style.
