I find NBU to be leaps and bounds more friendly with SSO/W2K in 4.5 when 
compared to 3.4. Thinking of 3.4 makes me cringe.
Sharing the drives across the blades would kill you in licensing costs, so I'd 
steer away from that one.
It doesn't seem necessary anyway. I'd tweak the include/exclude lists and set 
up some streams if they are GigE. But the media server option probably sounds 
like the best idea.

Maybe using 5.0's disk-disk-tape feature would be handy here?

Other than the size of the data, you shouldn't have any issues backing up 
blades. I currently backup about 30 HP blades, all 100Mb connected, and don't 
have any problems.
