I had that mistake a few times since I am sending the catalog with our
offsite set.
I fixed it by adding a check script to my loadcap script and adding that
check to crontab as well to alert by mail and SMS when that happens.
The script actually checks that there are exactly 2 tapes from NETBACKUP
pool while I use that pool only for DB backups. If there are more or less it
alerts if it finds 2 it is checking if those are set in the db settings.
If not it is setting it to those two automatically.

Hope that helps

Hell Dan

As far as I know the catalog backup will not failover to another tape. I
also do TSM (aka adsm) and there I am able to tell it to use a scratch tape
for the database backup.

I think the only fix is to go to the following url and request a change?

http://enhancement.veritas.com/

Along with trying the alternate tape, or using a scratch tape on failure, it
would be nice if the catalog backup could be set up to run with other
workload. Our systems are getting more and more into 24X7 systems and it
would be nice is veritas could have netbackup follow along.

I removed a catalog backup tape by mistake on Friday. I came in today,
and noticed that NO backups were run for the entire weekend because that
tape wasn't in the juke.

Sure, it was user error. My bad. But doesn't this sound a bit severe?
You'ld think there would be logic in the code that says, 'if cat tape #2
is not available, write to cat tape #1'.

Is there something I could set as a flag that would do that?
