Release Title
Broadcom NetXtreme Family of Adapters , v.6.6a, A02

Release Date
February 10, 2004

Description
Broadcom NetXtreme Family of Adapters driver version 6.6a for Windows
2000 Server Family. Contains base and intermediate drivers for all Dell
supported Broadcom Network Devices and Broadcom NetXtreme based
integrated network controllers but not Everglades 5704 LOM

Supported Device(s)
NetXtreme Family of Adapters

Supported Operating System(s)
Windows 2000 Server SP1+
Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1+

Fixes / Enhancements
This release fixes a problem that occurs during the use of Microsoft
Clustering Services and Broadcom Teaming. When the cluster attempts to
failover to the backup server, network access is lost, resulting in the
backup server being unable to communicate with the network.

An added enhancement with this release is a silent teaming/VLAN
configuration utility (BaspSCfg.exe) is released in this package, in the
BASP_Unattend directory. The utility is a Win32 Console Mode executable
that takes parameters as teaming configuration options to construct a
team and no user interaction is required. Users can wrap the utility
into their own configuration software to achieve their deployment
purposes.

Has anyone had problems with Broadcom teaming drivers?

At this site, we're running NBU 5.0 with Broadcom BASP Virtual Adapter
6.0.1.0 driver on a pair of Nextreme gigabit Ethernet adapters in a Dell
2650.

Client backups to tape seem to work fine, but backups to a disk staging
storage unit fail with various network-type errors. When we remove the
teaming adapter and use the standard Ethernet adapter (version 6.34.4),
things work just fine.

Sniffing shows a lot of packet fragmentation in either case.

So we now have a way to make this work, but can't team the adapters. We
sure would like to be able to do this!

Any ideas or similar problems out there?

Thanks!

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Network Settings

We are currently in the process of setting up a dedicated gigabit
Ethernet for our NetBackup environment. We have been having trouble
with communication and seem to have it narrowed down to setting
configuration. I am looking for some help on what is the recommended
settings for the configurable parameters on our switches and nic cards.
The following is the hardware that we have in our private network and
the configurable parameters that we are trying to set:

Switch: Nortel 5510 10/100/100

Switch Configurable Parameters:

SPEED (10/100/100)
DUPLEX (HALF/FULL)
FLOW CONTROL (NONE/ASYMETRIC/SYMETRIC)

Windows 2000 Dell servers Gig-E cards: Broadcom gigabit 57xx series

Broadcom configurable Parameters:

Checksum Offload = none, Rx TCP/IP, Tx TCP/IP, Tx/Rx TCP/IP
Ethernet@WireSpeed =enable, disable Flow Control =auto, disable, Rx
Pause, Rx/Tx Pause, Tx Pause
    Additional questions with Flow Control:
          off or disabled
TX on, RX off (is this Asymmetric?)
TX off, RX on (is this Asymmetric too?)
          RX on, TX on (symmetric?)
Jumbo MTU =1500-9000
Speed & Duplex =auto,10/100 half/full duplex
Wake Up Capabilities =Both, Magic packet, None, Wake Up Frame WOL Speed
=Auto, 10mb, 100mb

Unix Systems:
HP-UX system Gig-E cards:HP C13COM
Sun Solaris Gig-E cards: Sun X1150A
IBM AIX Gig-E cards: IBM -14100401

Unix configurable parameters:

Autonegotiate: ON/OFF
Transmit and Receive Flow Control Status: Enabled/Disabled Media Speed:
10/100/1000 FULL DUPLEX/HALF DUPLEX
