All of the reading I have done indicates that 5.0 functions the same as
4.5 regarding ASCII and binary cats. Also, you do have the option of
'converting' your ASCII to binary and they work just fine. I would
suggest that you:
=20
backup the cats
=20
convert to binary
=20
test
=20
upgrade to 5.0
=20
=20
Thank you,

This may be a dumb question, but I cant seem to find a definitive answer
in documentation.

I know when upgrading from 3.2 to 4.5 the old catalogues will be kept in
asci and new ones will be written in binary and that you will still be
able to restore from old catalogues. Now if upgrading from 3.2 to
version ( through the correct steps obviously ) will ver 5 still be able
to read these asci catalogues or will it just expect binarys? I was a
bit dubious from converting my catalogues see as the information is
critical in case of restore.
=20
Thanks
