[Veritas-bu] Why does it start so many processes?

Just curious.  Why does it start so many bptm processes?  Here is small
section from the log.  

01/07/2004 12:14:25 PM - end reading; read time: 00:01:17
01/07/2004 12:14:34 PM - started process bptm (4152)
01/07/2004 12:14:35 PM - started process bptm (3136)
01/07/2004 12:14:36 PM - started process bptm (4028)
01/07/2004 12:14:36 PM - started process bptm (3208)
01/07/2004 12:14:37 PM - started process bptm (3136)
01/07/2004 12:14:37 PM - mounting OS0009

At this point it is finishing the duplication of one image and starting
another.
