Charles,
Your problem is exactly as you thought. The first thing that a
restore
does is to issue a list request to the master for backups for the
system. In order for this to work the altnames directory must me
configured to allow the target system to restore from the sources
system's backups. Furthermore, the owner of the oracle binaries on both
machines must be the same.

If you need further help with this, please let me know. I have done a
ton of Oracle with NBU.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] NBU 4.5 + RMAN alternate system restore

I just got this question from one of the DBAs here - they're trying
to do an alternate system restore of a database using RMAN.
Unfortunately
it's in an outsourced environment that I don't have access to.

While I think the error that is showing up is related to something like
altnames not being set up properly, I can't check.

AFAIK the master server is a Win2K system, the clients in this case are
HP/UX 11i.

Anybody seen the error in question and maybe have a pointer?

Support is suggesting MP3 or better (I think the environment is
currently
at MP2).

checked
the Netbackup log file on epirdb01 (see the blue line). It seems that
the
media manager could not resolve the name "epirdb01.xxx.com"
