Hi David
=20
I am a little unsure how to configure Netbackup (3.4) to do this, do you cr=
eate schedules that overlap each other start time? for example:
=20
Daily backup configured to run every day
Weekly for Thursday, Friday Saturday
Monthly for Saturday, Sunday =20
=20
Am I right in thinking NB will select the most appropriate backup to run, e=
ven though they overlap? How does this work, does it use frequency, retenti=
on levels etc?
=20
Thanks very much!

Timothy.

What I have done in my previous job as a consultant is create daily
backup=
s that run every 14 hours (open at 6pm close at 6am), this ensures the star=
t at or near the 6pm mark, depending on when bpsched would "wake-up". My w=
eekly backup frequency set for every 5 days with only Thursday, Friday and =
Saturday with open windows of opportunity. This ensures that all of my wee=
kly backup jobs will always start on Thursday, but use Friday and Saturday =
as my "rain dates" just in case we hit some errors on Thursday. And Monthl=
y fulls I would set at every 26 days, with Saturday and Sunday as the only =
two days open for the backup window. This ensures that every "month" my mo=
nthly full will run on a Saturday and use Sunday if necessary due to errors.
        =20
I would spread out the full backups across the week for the various
polici=
es (classes) to meet the client expectations for backup.
        =20
I found frequency schedules to be much more flexible, personally.
        =20
        Just a thought.

Thanks to Rockey Reed for a smilar answer.
        =20
I dont think this will work in my environment - currently for my weekly
ba=
ckups, the frequency is set to every 8 hours (size of backup window) - The =
reason I did not set it to 1 week is that if the backup starts one minute t=
o the end of the backup window, it could potentially miss the next window a=
s one week away is one minute to the end of the backup windows the followin=
g week.
        =20
I would appreciate any thoughts on best practice. I have 4 Hourly,
Daily, =
Weekly (and soon to be, if we can get it working Monthly) backups with thre=
e pools - Application, Database and System (for each type of backup). Do pe=
ople create lots of classes for each filesystem mount or do you group sched=
ules (i.e daily) together?
        =20
        Thanks,
        Timothy
