What I have done in my previous job as a consultant is create daily
backups that run every 14 hours (open at 6pm close at 6am), this ensures
the start at or near the 6pm mark, depending on when bpsched would
"wake-up". My weekly backup frequency set for every 5 days with only
Thursday, Friday and Saturday with open windows of opportunity. This
ensures that all of my weekly backup jobs will always start on Thursday,
but use Friday and Saturday as my "rain dates" just in case we hit some
errors on Thursday. And Monthly fulls I would set at every 26 days,
with Saturday and Sunday as the only two days open for the backup
window. This ensures that every "month" my monthly full will run on a
Saturday and use Sunday if necessary due to errors.
=20
I would spread out the full backups across the week for the various
policies (classes) to meet the client expectations for backup.
=20
I found frequency schedules to be much more flexible, personally.
=20
Just a thought.

Thanks to Rockey Reed for a smilar answer.
=20
I dont think this will work in my environment - currently for my weekly
backups, the frequency is set to every 8 hours (size of backup window) -
The reason I did not set it to 1 week is that if the backup starts one
minute to the end of the backup window, it could potentially miss the
next window as one week away is one minute to the end of the backup
windows the following week.
=20
I would appreciate any thoughts on best practice. I have 4 Hourly,
Daily, Weekly (and soon to be, if we can get it working Monthly) backups
with three pools - Application, Database and System (for each type of
backup). Do people create lots of classes for each filesystem mount or
do you group schedules (i.e daily) together?
=20
Thanks,
Timothy

Add another entry to your schedule tab called something like
fullmonthly and make it identical to your fullweekly except for the
retention period and backup frequency If the times are the same the NBU
scheduler will decide which to run based on the frequency specified.=20
