Hi

Any mention of changes to the integation of NBU & VSM
This was writtent by Veritas on the subject a while back:-

Extract frrom the Admin Manual of Veritas Storage Migrator (VSM) Version
4.5
________________________________________________________
Caution
The NetBackup (nb) method will not be supported in the next release of
VSM.
Choosing this method will require conversion for the next release.
Several disadvantages exist in using the NetBackup method, as described in
Drawbacks to Using the NetBackup Storage Method on page 62.
Read thisinformation before you consider configuring the nb method.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 5.0 - quick feature overview

Here's a quick list, pulled from a Veritas presentation last week. Caveat
emptor, this is pre-release info & subject to change:

# Checkpoint restart for backups
Allows failed or suspended backup to be restarted. UNIX & Windows policy
types only.

# Disk Staging
Backup to disk with automatic transition to tape. On-disk backups are
overwritten by newer backups automatically only if sent previously to
tape.
(Core NB, no extra license)

# Synthetic Backups
Create "artificial" full backups from previous full backups and subsequent
incrementals. Entirely tape/disk image process, client is not involved.
Standard (UNIX) and Windows backups only. Must have TIR+ (True Image
Restore
+ Move detection) enabled on clients. (Core NB, no extra license)

# Access Control
Assign differing backup task priveleges to different groups of users. Uses
new NB VxSS subsystem (to be used across all Veritas products). (Core NB,
no extra license)

# Re-packaging
"Netbackup Business Server" becomes "Netbackup Server" and gains some
default features (pretty much no limits except for there is only one
combined master/media server (no other media server allowed). The
features
that require more than one media server, like SSO, therefore are disabled.

"Netbackup Datacenter" becomes "Netbackup Enterprise Server"

#Advanced Client
All those little extra-cost options for frozen image backups & the like
are
rolled into one package (extra $$). Flashbackup, Instant Recovery,
Server-free agent, BLIB, etc. now all one package.

# NDMP Improvements
Auto-discovery for NDMP attached devices
Performance Improvements-stream-based I/O. 10x speed improvements seen
with
DLT8000 & 10/100 network.

# Vault Enhancements
Handling of closed container (container tracking)
ACS multi-MAP intelligent Eject (eject from closest MAP and do multiple
MAPs
concurrently)
GUI support for deferred eject

# Other
Inline tape copy (ITC) now part of the base product (yeah!)
Native BackupExec tape reader
Improved cluster support (NB Enterprise only)
Support for Windows Change Journal
Tighter integration with other Veritas products (VxFS 4.0 & VxVM 4.0).
Support for images up to 2XB in size (Exabytes!), formerly the max image
size was 1TB.
Individual file size support to 64TB.
