I also agree that NBAR may not be your best choice.

I have had an open ticket with Veritas since 7/9/03 because my Advanced
Reporter stopped
reporting the amount of data being backed up! The problem went to something
called backline
support and has been there for over a month now. (absolutely no idea why
this stopped working
and they have been unable to provide a fix) (Case I/D 181496340)

My management here is wondering if we can get our money back for support on
this product.

For what it's worth.

I agree. I have Project Managers who always ask for statistics that NBAR
cannot provide. For example, I was asked to provide a report that shows all
successful Restores, for an entire month, of three particular clients in
which the restore purpose was only for our "Duplication" project. From what
I can see, NBAR cannot be that specific in its restore reporting - it will
show you all restores for all clients during a certain time period, but you
cannot filter it to display specific clients. The lack of a way to modify,
or filter, the report display, is the problem.

Instead, we wind up having to write scripts, or use the command line, for
almost every single Manager's or Departmental request.

Questionable benefit. The web reports are OK, but not modify-able. Really,
I don't see a lot of value in them, except to publish for external users.
But if said users want something the default reports don't give, you're out
of luck.

You can have direct access to the NBAR SQL (storied in a MySQL database) to
do your own custom reports, but

(1) the schema is not properly documented (i.e., it's wrong)
(2) some fields are apparently not updated
(3) it's not inline-tape-copy-aware
(4) there is *no support* for querying the database. Even though they
document the schema, Veritas support will not answer questions (like "why
doesn't this column exist when it's shown in the schema" or "why is this a
different type than the schema shows").

We're looking at different products right now on reporting. Aptare looks
interesting. I've heard good and bad about Bocada but haven't really
examined it.

Hi admins,

Master server is Solaris 9 runnning Netbackup 4.5 MP3 .
My managers are looking for a reporting tool which can give some pretty good
statistics. Please give your opinion about the Advance Reporter ( benefits,

functionality..etc.)

Thanks in advance,
Dennis
