I did this over the weekend.. twice.. the first time, it went smoothly,
but then we realized the media databases didn't move properly.. so we
did it again...

step one.. backup everything.. to disk.. to tape. on paper..
whereever.. just make sure you have your catalog and all that entails.

step two.. (the part I neglected in trial one) Move your media back to
your master server, as if you're removing a media server. This is
important.. your media databases think your master server is named x,
and you're changing to y. Changing these entries after the fact is what
Veritas will charge you for.

step three.. bpbackupdb.. the master server is the only server that
should have relevant data at this point (your media has been moved
home) and so it's the only one you care about.

step four... bprecover -r -d/tpath <where.your.files.are> -dhost
<new_master_server>

step five.. restart the daemons (oh yeah.. step 3.5 bring down daemons
on the new master server, assuming they're running)

step six.. run your test restores and test backups.. and all should be
well.

The only problem we would have had if we ignored step one.. our media
would be partially assigned. The master server could restore from
tapes, but there might have been some strangeness in the media
databases. So remember.. without step one, your restores will work..
your images will expire.. and your tapes would probably return to being
unassigned.. but there might be some strange reporting done by some
scripts that check media DBs, like available_media.

Hope this helps.. and of course.. hopefully you have a test
environment, right? =)

Good luck,

Sam
