Spot on Rob - I couldn't think of it . In my defence I've been doing a

It sounds like you are doing this restore via the x-windows GUI in 
NetBackup 3.x?

In this case, the location of the restore log is determined based on 
the value of the $HOME environment value.  Changing $HOME before 
launching the GUI is the only way I know of to change the restore log 
location.
