[Veritas-bu] scanning a tape

If this is UNIX you can try using dd.
Mount the tape in the tape drive.
dd if=/dev/rmt/0 bs=1024 count=1 | strings
If there is an RVSN (recorded volume serial number) on the tape, this
will give show you the header information.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] scanning a tape
Hi there;
You guys were so quick the last time, I thought I would send another
question your way.
I have a bunch of cartridges without any type of lable on them and
I want to see if they are really blank. How, using xnb, can I get
it to scan the lables on these tapes. The robotic inventory update
simply assigned the next default set of labels to them, without
checking them.
Bob
Version 3.4GA
I am using xnb, simply because jnbSA is unbelievably slow.
