Several factors:

=20

what type of machine? OS? # cpu's? etc...

this will have a significant effect on performance

=20

Assumptions:

1) unix server

2) multi-cpu (assume 2 since backup server)

3) multiple file systems

=20

Given the above, I would say create a file listing with 4 NEW_STREAM
directives and flood the SDLT's. Do NOT multiplex! You're restore time
will be about double the backup time (rule of thumb).

=20

I can't speak to the mutli stream restore personally. I think it works
but never actually used it against one machine.

=20

Hth.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Fastest Backup & Restore

=20

Howdy,

=20

I semi-new to Veritas Netbackup. I have policies and have

done some restores and backups. Everything is working fine.

=20

This weekend, we want to rebuild a system that has about

3.5 TB's of Data. We want to backup the system to tape,

rebuild the disk structure, and then restore.

=20

What' the fastest way to do this?

=20

I have a L180 with 4 SDLT Tape units and will be backing up

over a gigabit between the 3.5TB machine and the backup server.

=20

I have setup a policy for the machine.

=20

Should I multiplex, and if I restore, is there anyway to restore

with multiple streams? I'm looking for the fastest backup/restore

for the machine.

=20

Thanks for the help.

=20

Cheers...James
