[Veritas-bu] DDS-3 tape capacity
2003-06-09 17:15:57
Hi
The missing 4 GB and possibly more is a measure of the compressibility of
your data.
24 GB represents optimal compression.
If you tried backing up compressed data there is a possibility that the
backup size is greater than the original.
In that case you would get less than 12 GB on a DDS3.
If you are on HP use /dev/rmt/*BEST* to get optimal hardware compression.

Jim McDonald

Subject: [Veritas-bu] DDS-3 tape capacity
DDS-3 tapes I use have 12 Gig Native/24 Gig compressed. What should I do to
get the full 24 Gigs space? On most case it does not go more than 20 Gigs.
On some drives it is even worst like
DIG004 4MM TL4 1 2 - 6 10626176 FULL
DIG008 4MM TL4 1 4 - 6 10853344 FULL
On 10 Gigs and they show as FULL already. Any suggestions please?
Thanks
-Daniel
